Welcome To Big Shark

I was captivated by the picturesque harbor village of Mangonui (Maori for ‘big shark’) on the North Island. If you are a Doc Martin fan, Mangonui resembles Port Wynn and I kept expecting grumpy Martin to bump into me at the fish and chippery. (Isn’t that Bert in the row boat?)

Doc would complain about the crayfish prices but the fish ‘n chips were cheap and came wrapped up in two layers of paper.

In the 1830’s Mangonui was a whaling port.
