All over the city of Christchurch school kids wander about wearing different uniforms from their different schools, public and private. Blazers and ties for all. The girls all wear skirts- no pants.  Skirt lengths vary from cute just above the knee to dowdy calf length. The shoes are clunky and black and sock length varies from bobby to knee, sometimes on the same kid! I talked to the group of three girls- 13 and 14 year olds- and the one on the left said about wearing uniforms: “It helps not having to worry about what to wear every morning. But it’s hard to ride a bike.”

Did you have to wear a uniform to school?
